OTRTA

A good couple years ago, I remember watching a video of
someone playing a minecraft map in which you had to multitask
a bunch of challenges. I don't think I watched the full video,
but the idea of it kept hanging around in my head for a loooong
time. I only really remember that the entire map was a small
platform with a 1-block spire in the middle. The player had to
dodge arrows by standing behind the spire, and I think there
where chests somewhere? And the player had a bow? I think?
Some 8 years later, I was messing around with the controls
of Baba Is You. It's a top-down game that can be controlled
using WASD and the arrow keys. If you use both at the same time,
you'll go twice as fast, which I really liked the idea of.
So these 2 ideas were the main inspirations for OTRTA.
A top-down reaction
game in which you frantically press WASD with your left hand and
the arrow keys with your right to move around and complete
challenges. The challenges being dodging death-zones, adapting
to wall patterns and collecting black squares.
OTRTA wasn't the first game I every finished, but it is the
first one I made for the general public. I've done a couple of
small game jams with a friend of mine before.
Some of my friends played the game, and nobody understood how
it worked without me explaining it. So game-design wise, it
wasn't really succesfull. Still pretty proud of it though.
I don't think the meaning of the name of the game
is ever explained in the game or in its
instructions, which I think is pretty funny.
Play it here!
